Fire Engineer at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley, Wellington Hospital

Contract:  Permanent, full-time

Salary:  $81,000 - $123,000

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley District of Te Whatu Ora have over 80 individual buildings served by manual or fully automated fire systems, fire suppression systems and appropriate passive fire construction.  This role will ensure that the District has fully operational and compliant fire systems that will ensure the continued delivery of key health outcomes.  The role will be required to coordinate and manage a variety of external contractors related to the provision of fire system services across the entire area covered by the district and be responsible for system shut downs and notices to our insurers.  The role has a critical interface with our Emergency Management team and will provide professional advice on fire evacuation requirements.

The Property & Facilities team is part of the wider Finance and Business Services directorate and is responsible for all facets of building infrastructure and its supporting systems. The service also oversees the plant and equipment managed through the application of reactive and planned maintenance activities through to investment into new builds and large complex upgrade works.  With the teams diverse range of skills it offers real opportunity to the ideal person to grow their own understanding of the wider facilities functions and issues. It offers the ability to advance or further hone their skill base.

Moū - About you

The ideal person for this role is someone who is a self-starter and understands the complexity of the legal and regulatory framework associated with both passive and system based fire network requirements.  Further you must have a passion for the field of fire systems and a strong desire to assist in the delivery of health care services by playing your part in delivery of suitable, compliant and safe fire systems. Generally you will be a team player who can interrelate with other skilled professionals such as project managers, mechanical services, security, core trades services etc.  You must be suitably qualified with either a relevant tertiary degree or considerable trade experience in this field.  Above all you need to be a person who enjoys coming to work and making a difference
