Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

Opportunities have risen for experienced Registered Nurses to work with mothers and babies in Mothercraft at Waikato Hospital. This nurse led service has a close working relationship with the administrative team, medical team, clinical nurse specialists, dietitians, social workers, perinatal mental health team and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for highly skilled, dynamic and passionate nurses to join our fabulous team to create positive impacts for whānau that access our services.

Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service

Mothercraft provides specialist nursing care, support and advice for parents and caregivers around assessment, education, evaluation, and negotiated planning of care for their babies in a residential environment. It is a 24-hour live-in service where mothers and babies arrive on the Mondays/Tuesdays and are discharged on Fridays.

The successful applicant will be supported to achieve this by

• A comprehensive orientation to the role

• Support from colleagues to develop in the role

• Educational opportunities as necessary

• Opportunities to develop advanced nursing skills

• Training to use systems / programmes that are required by the service

Mothercraft nurses have also supported acute areas within Child Health when redeployed briefly due to spikes in Omicron cases and RSV infections in recent years.

Mōu | About you

Essential skills & experience:

• 3 years recent Paediatric or Neonatal nursing experience

• Excellent communication skills

• Proven problem solving skills

• Ability to effectively work autonomously and as part of a team

• The desire to provide quality care within a multi-disciplinary team

Preferred skills & experience:

• Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

• Community Paediatric experience

• Maternal mental health nursing experience
