Senior Security Consultant at Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington

The role:

The role provides expertise to DIA Branch's to develop and implement resilient and effective ICT business services that are aligned with DIA requirements, legislation and government regulations. They champion security by design, provide specialist advice and lead the delivery of effective security outcomes across business services, investment and improvement opportunities. The work ensures that security is embedded in the delivery of business services or change initiatives throughout DIA.

Key Responsibilities:

DIA Capability and maturity uplift

  • Contribute ICT security domain expertise to the development of enterprise, domain and architecture strategies
  • Develop a strong understanding DIA branch business model, including business drivers and expected outcomes
  • Contribute to branch planning, development of business cases, strategies and roadmaps to uplift security and safety capability
  • Provide security system certificate and accreditation, risk assurance activities and the delivery of security, safety and risk advice

Innovation and continuous improvement

  • Track developments and changes to business services and threat models, looking for opportunities or risks
  • Keep abreast of emerging ICT security and safety trends and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders
  • Influence to ensure that improvements are made to the Security and Safety practices and methodologies
  • Proactively seek feedback and share lessons learned to support Security and Safety capabilities.

Stakeholder and Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, within DIA, Government and ICT Partners
  • Proactively work to promote an agile and responsive security culture

Key Requirements:

Demonstrate:

  • A broad knowledge across a range of security and safety domains or specific deep domain expertise, including practical application of security and safety in support of business outcomes
  • Experience providing security expertise across technical delivery teams, vendors and service providers and to business stakeholders
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver high quality security and technology artefacts that align with business needs and requirements
  • A proven track record in proactively contributing to the delivery of business solutions in a service orientated organisation
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a comparable role or show solid next step readiness
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Experience in vulnerability management tools and passive scanning

  • Expertise in bringing people with opposing views together
  • Steer pragmatic solutions at the most senior levels
  • Ability to quickly acquire a deep understanding of the business
  • Communicate complex and technical concepts to different audiences
  • Flexible approach and responsiveness to new ideas and activities

  • Strong analytical thinking
  • Ability to apply abstract concepts in innovative ways
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills,
  • Hands-on experience implementing security solutions

Professional Qualifications / other requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary / industry recognised qualification and certifications
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a CONFIDENTIAL security clearance
