Risk Analyst at Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Wellington

About the role:

The focus of your role is to undertake risk assessments on complex cases where the applicant may pose a risk to New Zealand's international reputation through an association with war crimes, crimes against humanity and/or gross human rights abuses.

You will also contribute to upholding New Zealand’s commitments to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and other strategic goods and services. The development and refinement of risk tools is a key part of the role.

These risk assessments and tools will be used to provide advice to decision makers and contribute to New Zealand’s national security.

As a Risk Analyst, you will report to the Manager Risk Assessment Team in the Verification and Compliance branch within the Immigration New Zealand group. The Risk Assessment Team consists of analysts based in Wellington who work in a tight-knit supportive environment with a focus on quality and timeliness.

Skills and experience required:

• In-depth knowledge of and interest in geo-political climates and international affairs.
• Highly developed research, analytical, and writing skills.
• Experience identifying and mitigating actual or potential risks.
• A sound understanding of risk management principles and experience in developing risk tools.
• Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
