About the role
The purpose of the Prevention: Innovation and Change group, within Iwi and Community, is to enable New Zealand Police to deliver ‘Our Business’ with and for Māori, Pacific, Ethnic communities. The Iwi and Communities group aims to foster and enable strong Māori, Pacific, Ethnic and Community Partnerships and Prevention outcomes. This is achieved through leading the development of strategies and initiatives to reduce crime and harm, including those that are co-designed with communities to deliver positive outcomes. The Business Support team provides support to the wider groups and teams to enable them to achieve their goals to uplift Police’s service delivery and enable the Māori, Pacific and Ethnic communities to live fulfilled lives. The Business support team will ensure that the wider group are equipped with the tools and processes they need to be able to deliver their objectives and goals
As a Manager of the Business Support Unit, you will have knowledge, experience and understanding of Māori tikanga and kawa and will bring, and confidently express, views through a Te Ao Māori lens. Every day you will be guided by the values of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga and Whakamana. You will have an excellent understanding of Police’s strategies, ‘Our Business” and the Commissioners Priorities and will lead and support the Business Support team to deliver a high level of service to other high impact teams such as Te Pae Oranga, Te Raranga, Prevention Strategy and others. This role will work closely with the Director Prevention Innovation and Change and hold relationships with a wide variety of teams within NZ Police and senior leaders and will enable effective information sharing and management with the various teams.
Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure the key principles of te ao Māori, community policing, partnerships, and quality customer service are adhered to in all projects and initiatives and contribute to meeting Police’s obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi
- Responsibility for a team of 5 direct reports
- Lead the Business Support Unit team to deliver outcomes that support Police’s Vision of being the safest country and to provide a high standard of service that ensures the Innovation and Change teams receive the support they need to deliver the service our communities expect and deserve
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with senior management and staff across Police Work Groups, including the Iwi & Community team to support the successful delivery of key Iwi & Community documents, business plans and initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with other internal and external stakeholders to ensure a high quality of service delivery for the Māori, Pacific and Ethnic communities.

Special requirements
ROLES – At Sergeant / Senior Sergeant / Inspector level (Both PE and OOC):
