National Practice Design Advisor at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, Multiple Locations

Reports to: Manager Practice Design- Te Kounga o te Mahi me ngā Wheako (Quality Practice and Experiences) 

Location: Flexible  

Job type: Permanent  

Salary: $119,158.00 - $132,397.00 

 

We have an exciting opportunity within the practice group of Te Kounga o te Mahi me ngā Wheako (Quality Practice and Experiences).  

The National Practice Design Advisor operates at a national level, providing specialist practice and design expertise across business groups. This is a new position to support the transformation of Oranga Tamariki by providing practice design into the Enabling Communities mahi progressing with our Treaty partners.

About Te Kounga o Te Mahi (Quality Practice and Experiences) 

Te Kounga o Te Mahi are responsible for driving service design, practice, quality and improvement, drawing on insights, to change the way Oranga Tamariki delivers to its Service Delivery kaimahi (workforce). The role and functions of the Practice teams within Te Kounga o Te Mahi are to support and enhance the quality of professional practice that is framed in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and drawn from Te Ao Māori principles of oranga through the provision of practice-related advice, the design and enhancement of practice frameworks, models and tools, and contributing to the design of major new areas of practice.

Mō te tūnga | About the role 

Reporting to the Manager Practice Design, this National Practice Design Advisor will be responsible for working alongside Māori, Partnerships and Communities as we progress the Enabling Communities mahi - which provides the opportunity for selected partners to prototype their own coordinated response and solutions to meet the needs of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau. These prototypes will inform the system shifts necessary to improve outcomes for tamariki and whānau. 

Utilising your skills and experience, you will work collaboratively to enhance the quality of design and thought leadership throughout the design of new projects and initiatives.  

 

Mōu | About you 

Promoting a collaborative approach, you will provide credible practice advice and design input into a range of projects and initiatives aligned to our strategic intentions, our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the obligations that arise from section 7AA of the Oranga Tamariki Act.  

You will whakamana and champion the rights of tamariki and whānau, within the Oranga Tamariki system, identifying barriers and enablers to our key strategic deliverables.  

Key requirements of the role include:  

  • Demonstrated experience in practice design roles 
  • Recognised commitment to te Ao Māori and the promotion of te reo me ōna tikanga Māori  
  •  A relevant tertiary qualification in social work and Social Work Registration are essential 
  • Being a conceptual thinker who can translate aspirations for tamariki and whānau into practice design and delivery  
  • Knowledge and experience of practice design methodology within a social services practice context  
  • Proven ability to engage and manage stakeholder relationships  
  • Ability to use clear and professional written and verbal communication  
  • A pragmatic and solutions focused approach to providing sound advice to leadership to help make informed decisions

Oranga Tamariki offer an impartial remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $119,158.00 and $132,397.00 dependant on experience, with progression steps available above this range.
