Allied Health Assistant, Waiatarau Acute Inpatient Unit - Adult Mental Health at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitematā, Auckland

Te Whatu Ora Waitemata serves the communities of North and West Auckland and the Rodney District, a population of over 600,000 people. Dedicated to the delivery of public health care, Waitemata is committed to “best care for everyone” - to the patient, their family/Whanau, the community and Iwi, and the healthcare workforce.

Waiatarau is a mental health inpatient unit located on the grounds of Waitakere Hospital. The unit as a whole comprises of 8 intensive care beds and 24 open ward beds.

Mental Health inpatient units are essentially national resources, but all efforts are made to ensure clients from the West Auckland area that need our services are accommodated at Waiatarau.

Are you an enthusiastic, creative and active person wanting to make a difference in people’s lives? 

This role is an important part of our inpatient team supporting people who are experiencing acute mental distress. The Allied Health Assistant will assist the therapy team in developing and providing a range of therapeutic activities with particular focus on wellbeing and recovery. You would be working both individually and with groups of people to find ways to make their time at the inpatient unit more enjoyable. Our plan is to provide opportunities for people to spend their time doing something that interests them into the evenings and weekends. Therefore, you will need to be available in the evenings and at weekends.
