The Team: What we do
At the Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL), our Specialist Testing Cluster is proud of its status as a leading-edge reference laboratory. Within our Specialist Testing Cluster we have over 65 skilled and dedicated Scientists and Technicians working across several specialist areas including: Specialist Chemistry, Protein Chemistry, Immunology, Endocrinology, Steroids and Toxicology. We are one of the few diagnostic health laboratories in New Zealand that develop new and innovative tests to meet changing healthcare needs.
We currently have a permanent fulltime opportunity working 40 hrs per week (Monday - Friday) for an experienced and motivated Technical Specialist to join our Endocrinology & Steroid team!
The Technical Specialist will be responsible for scientific leadership and ongoing development of the Endocrinology and Steroid Service at CHL, working in partnership with the wider Specialist Service Section Heads, Chemical Pathologists and Service Manager. The role includes a responsibility for ongoing education and scientific development of the wider Endocrinology and Steroid Laboratory team.
The Role: Where you fit in
The Technical Specialist will be responsible for scientific leadership and ongoing development of the Endocrinology and Steroid Service at CHL, working in partnership with the wider Specialist Service Section Heads, Chemical Pathologists and Service Manager. The role includes a responsibility for ongoing education and scientific development of the wider Endocrinology and Steroid Laboratory team.
Your skills will include:
- A general understanding of endocrinology and mass spectrometry is highly desirable;
- A client/patient focus and passion for delivering a high-quality service;
- The ability to liaise and communicate with a wide range of clinical and technical staff is imperative;
- Good working knowledge of a wide range of manual and semi-automated techniques;
- The ability to lead quality improvement initiatives along with excellent time management skills, enabling you to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
- New Zealand Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist is essential.
Training in this specialty area will be provided for the successful applicant if required.
