Principal Advisor - Project Risk at Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities , Auckland

Salary $142,518 per annum + 5 weeks annual leave

Ko tā mātou mahi - Our Role  

Working as part of the Urban Development and Delivery (UDD) Risk, Benefits and Assurance team, the Principal Advisor - Risk is the subject matter expert responsible for delivering risk management and risk advisory services to add value to project delivery and achieving project outcomes. The team supports and protect the organisation's operations and enable the organisation to make quality decisions, to anticipate and deal with risks, threats and opportunities in a structured manner and to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of programmes, projects and processes. 

The role works alongside, and collaborates with, Project Delivery, Commercial Management, and Civil Construction and Infrastructure teams to seamlessly deliver Risk and Assurance services and advice. 

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu - What you will bring  

  • Tertiary qualification or relevant work experience? 
  • The ability to establish credibility and manage relationships with managers and teams, both internally, across a large organisation, and externally  
  • A working understanding of project risk 
  • Relevant risk management experience around large infrastructure or construction projects, programmes or portfolios  
  • A working understanding of international risk management frameworks and standards (such as ISO31000:2018) and established good practices is preferred 
  • Sound technical risk management skills as a risk management practitioner 
  • Experience functioning as a member of a highly-skilled, high performing and engaged risk management teams in multi-faceted and demanding environments 
  • Experience in working to a risk management strategy 
  • Interest in the New Zealand social housing, residential and property development sectors 
  • Ability to innovate and apply new practices and processes to ensure continuous improvement. 
  • The behavioural characteristics and skills required to work in a matrixed environment. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills and advanced written and verbal skills 
  • Interest in public sector structure, governance, processes and systems 
  • Experience navigating and operating in a regulated environment, experience working constructively across functions and track record of building and maintaining the trust of all stakeholders.
