Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are looking for a number of Principal Advisors in our Service Design and Operational Policy team for 12 month fixed terms. Our team sits within the Solutions Design and Implementation group, which is responsible for designing the detailed policy, legislation, funding settings and tools needed to achieve our system priorities.

Service Design and Operational Policy is a highly motivated and collaborative team with a focus on developing advice, operational policies and solution designs that will deliver on our core work programme. This includes working to prevent and reduce homelessness and providing housing and support services for vulnerable New Zealanders. We establish programmes and services that deliver housing from transitional and public housing through to affordable housing and beyond. All this helps work towards our vision that everyone has a place to call home.

As part of the team, you'll be responsible for helping ensure we deliver on policy intent or Ministerial direction, while maintaining an understanding of people and system impacts. You will do this through thorough analysis and interpretation of information from a variety of sources in a range of formats, and provision of high-quality operational policy advice and solution design options, having considered the operational implications and practicalities.

You'll be working across HUD or with other government agencies to provide strategic policy teams with advice to inform policy development, as well as operational teams with support to deliver on policy intent. It's exciting work where no two days are the same and you can quickly see the impact of your work making a tangible difference in the housing system.

The work is varied and can include providing Ministers with advice and updates on delivery and implementation of initiatives or key matters of interest through to engaging with sector bodies on what is working on the ground. You may be involved in leading or contributing to responses to urgent policy or operational issue that require the input and support from a number of teams.

With the right attitude, experience and commitment to both long- and short-term goals, these roles are an exciting opportunity to work across our organisation and the public sector, to help address some of the most pressing issues facing New Zealand society today.

The salary for these roles is $136,146 - $166,401.
