Salary details: $85,583 to $96,615 - depending on experience
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We're in search of a Technical Specialist in charge of the Immunology Department. We are a small, friendly team of 8, which includes another Technical Specialist in charge of Serology, plus Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technicians who rotate between Immunology and Serology. You will also be supported by senior medical staff and a department manager. The duties are interesting and varied and include performing a wide range of automated and manual testing. This includes autoantibody testing, allergy testing and protein based diagnostics. The current analysers we have in the department are Capillarys, Bio- Flash, Blot Master, Immunocap, Optilite and Hydrasys 2.
You would be expected to self manage the Immunology area:

Keeping methods and documents in DocDb up to date that pertain to your area

Training of other staff as required

Making sure required maintenance is performed on any pieces of equipment in this area

Reviewing the internal QC on the testing performed in this area
-
Making sure the all external QC is submitted on time and reviewed and investigated if necessary

Liasing with Pathologists

Method development, as required

Waikato region Laboratory operates as a 24 hour service, providing high quality diagnostic services that contribute towards the diagnosis, management and monitoring of almost all medical conditions.
The Laboratory is an IANZ accredited facility and performs over 8 million tests a year. Waikato region Laboratory is a key provider of diagnostics for the Waikato area, provides specialist testing for the Midland health region, and also provides specialist testing by referral from other laboratories across New Zealand.

Registration with the NZ Medical Science Council, or be eligible to be registered

Previous work in a medical laboratory and with immunology experience

Good communication skills with other Immunology/Serology staff, and the rest of the laboratory, plus external laboratories and companies
