Development & Test Analyst - STRmix at Institute of Environmental Science & Research Limited, Auckland

Te tūnga | The role

The STRmix' team creates world leading, award winning software that allows forensic biologists to analyse, interpret and investigate DNA profiles more efficiently and effectively. Our mission is to empower the forensic community through science and innovation. We do this through leading-edge scientific research, high quality software development and comprehensive training and support delivery. Our flagship software, STRmix', has been developed by ESR in partnership with Forensic Science SA (FSSA). Adding FaSTR' DNA and DBLR' to STRmix', we provide an end-to-end analysis and interpretation solution.

We have an opportunity for a Development & Test Analyst to support the STRmix' Development and Test Lead and the wider STRmix' team through the development and testing of STRmix software, generating scripts and reports for software testing, and assisting with the preparation of documentation.

In this role you will be involved in:

  • Assisting with the preparation of software test scripts, including defining the appropriate tests and test data to use.
  • Testing of software and documenting the results of each test cycle.
  • The creation, updating or revision of software manuals and software requirements specification documentation.
  • Assisting with data analysis for software validation and the verification of changes logged in issue tracking software.

We offer flexible working options, including part time or job-share. We are also open to applications across anywhere in Aotearoa, including Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary degree in science, computer science, mathematical or other IT disciplines.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems and communicate the problem effectively.
  • Proven documentation and communication skills.
  • Prior experience with MS Excel.
  • Prior experience in test analysis, including the ability to write test plans and scripts would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of software development would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages (R, Python or other) would be desirable, but not essential.
