The Reserve Bank of New Zealand | Te Pūtea Matua is New Zealand's central bank. Its purpose is enabling economic prosperity and well-being for all New Zealanders | Toitū te Ōhanga.

This is an exciting time as the Bank continues to transform, setting up to meet an evolving mandate and purpose.

This role will contribute with other newly created roles to enable Te Pūtea Matua to prepare for the Deposit Takers Bill that's been introduced to Parliament. This legislation will promote the prosperity and well-being of New Zealanders by protecting and promoting the stability of the financial system.

Te tūranga - The role

The Data Product Lead role is a new role that will have a dual focus on coordinating and implementing new initiatives. The Data Product Lead will use their expertise to implement data initiatives that will better enable data-driven decision-making at the Bank.

The primary focus of this role will be the implementation of end-to-end data collections that will underpin requirements of the proposed Deposit Takers Act. This Act will create a single regulatory regime for all entities who hold deposits, and will enable a new Depositor Compensation Scheme to protect deposits held in these institutions.

New data collections could take the form of aggregated financial reporting surveys, specific case studies, or larger, granular datasets. Each collection will need consideration of the most effective tools to design, build, and utilise them well.

The Data Product Lead is expected to collaborate effectively within and across departments to achieve the RBNZ's objectives. Stakeholder engagement skills will be crucial to learn about what data suppliers can do, what data users need, and how data and information should be presented to deliver great data products and services.

Ō pūkenga - About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • at least 6 years' experience in a data-related area, with experience gained in banking, statistics, and/or a financial institution
  • extensive experience building data collections and products
  • strong relationship management skills and experience working with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • proven experience using a variety of tools for designing, building, and visualising data.
  • well-developed experience using Power BI, R, or Python would be an advantage.
