About the role
Rotorua Youth Services is looking for someone to fill the Youth Worker position based at the Rotorua Police Station. You will join the youth development and youth aid team that consists of Constabulary and Non-Constabulary staff working with Youth at Risk and their families in the Rotorua Rohe.
You will be in a position of trust and confidence with daily contact with local stakeholders, schools, youth clients, and community groups. The Youth Worker will work closely with families identifying any risks and issues affecting that young person's development and is expected to make the appropriate referrals or course of action.
Youth Development is a team that carries out early intervention with youth using prevention strategies, partnerships, creative engagement and legislation. The goal is to keep kids out of the criminal justice system through identifying risk factors and removing obstacles to them achieving a positive future.
This role includes file management, planning and supervising activities and programs for Youth, as well as keeping, and maintaining accurate notes and records on a daily basis.
- Identify problems, generate solutions, and make decisions

- Be self-motivated and work productively with minimal supervision
- Ability to identify risk and make sound decisions leading to positive outcomes and Is able to supervise and lead Youth activities and Holiday programs
- Have a good sense of cultural awareness, inclusion and diversity

- Recent experience working with Youth
- The ability to effectively manage your own workload and being accountable for your performance
- Clear and committed state of mind clear about our outcomes and what we are wanting to achieve

- Having the skills to effectively communicate with our people, partners and the community
- Having the critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions
- Having the experience to engage with partners, stakeholders and support agencies to develop strong working relationships and networks.
- Knowing the legislation, policy and guidelines relevant to this role and how to access them
- Knowing and understanding the diverse cultures within our communities
- Knowing how to identify and manage risk to personal safety and trust and confidence

Special requirements
- Full NZ Driver’s Licence
- Able to clear Police Vetting (Core Children’s worker security check is required)
- Relevant Youth Worker Qualification such as a NZ Certificate in Youth Work (Level 3 or 4), NZ Diploma in Youth Work (Level 6), or similar qualification desirable but not essential
