Locum Senior Medical Officer - Cardiologist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Counties Manukau, Auckland

The Department of Cardiology at Middlemore Hospital invites applications for a full-time general adult cardiologist with specialist training in imaging including echocardiography.  Experience in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Expertise in echocardiography and experience in heart failure, general cardiology is desirable, but there will be support for upskilling in cardiac computed tomography.  Middlemore Hospital is an accredited, 800-bed, teaching hospital of Auckland University and it is the main acute medicine centre for the region of over 550,000 people. Our Department of Cardiology runs an 18 bed CCU/SDU and a Cardiology Ward. We offer a large volume outpatient service, an on-site cardiac investigation unit (echocardiography, exercise, and tilt-table testing, Holter and event monitoring), two cardiac interventional suites, and on-site CT coronary angiography (acute and elective service) and cardiac MRI services. Cardiac surgical and invasive electrophysiology services are also provided off-site at Auckland City Hospital.

 

Our Cardiology Service provides high quality under-graduate and post-graduate teaching. There is an active research program in place spanning clinical trials and local research with the department at the forefront of the ANZACS-QI programme. There are currently 17 Cardiologists in the department including several national leaders, with extensive growth plans over the next two years.

 

A position is available immediately for a suitably experienced cardiologist with a focus on cardiac imaging particularly CT and MRI. Echocardiography expertise would also be desirable. You will work within a team including 6 other imaging cardiologists.  Primary responsibilities are the provision of cardiac imaging expertise/reporting. The successful applicant would also have responsibilities for the acute general cardiology care on the cardiology ward and in the out of hours Cardiology roster (approximately 1:6 call including weekend ward rounds). There will also be contribution to the provision of outpatient clinics. There will be a rostered weekly half day when not on ward service to support and contribute to departmental research.

 

We are seeking a colleague who strives to advance the cardiology department particularly the imaging service. 

 

Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Award Agreement.

 

Applicants must have suitable training and experience in Cardiology and be able to be registered with the New Zealand Medical Council.
