TE WHATU ORA – WAIKATO DISTRICT
Cardiothoracic Department
Cardiothoracic Non-SET Registrar
Full-time
Applications are invited for the 2024/2025 year for non-SET Registrar Positions (2yrs+ Post Graduation) at Waikato Hospital.
We are seeking doctors who have an interest in pursuing a surgical or critical care career pathway. Candidates who have completed two years post graduate hospital experience including a variety of surgical experience will be considered. This is an excellent opportunity to experience cardiothoracic surgery whilst working in a supportive environment.
Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and a major tertiary referral centre providing specialised and emergency healthcare for ~ 1,007,000 people in the Midland and Waikato area.
The Waikato cardiac unit performs over 650 open heart procedures a year with active TAVI, aortic and complex cardiac pathways and around 200 thoracic cases with active thoracoscopy services, including uni and multiportal access.
The successful applicant(s) will be required to:
- manage outpatients and inpatients in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department under the supervision of the Cardiothoracic Surgeon
- participate in the on-call registrar roster
- participate in departmental meetings and be involved in teaching
- conduct research and quality improvement projects
Our registrars are expected to involve themselves in divisional research activities and prepare presentations for research events. Our preference is to offer 12-month positions as this gives our registrars enough exposure to the specialty and to complete the necessary research projects to improve their CV.
If you are an overseas doctor, please visit the Medical Council of New Zealand web site to ensure that your qualifications meet the criteria for registration to practice medicine in New Zealand. The direct link to the self-assessment page is:
