Waikato Hospital is a provider of secondary and tertiary health and disability services to the Waikato District and the wider Te Manawa Taki region. The population base for the Waikato areas is 425,000. The catchment for advanced trauma specialties in the broader Te Manawa Taki region is 1,007,000. Waikato Hospital sees one of the highest trauma volumes of any hospital in New Zealand and is verified as Provisional Level 1 by The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trauma Verification Program.

The Colorectal unit at Waikato Hospital consists of six consultants.  It provides tertiary level colorectal services to Midlands region as well as nationally for peritoneal malignancy and TEMS procedure.  There is a good mix of malignant and benign conditions including IBD and functional bowel disorders.   New Endoscopy Suites completed in late 2012 offers excellent diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic experience including Endoanal ultrasound. There is an excellent team of clinicians and excellent learning and research opportunities.

The Fellow position is part of the General Surgery Department and is available for the 2024/2025 year for 12 months. The Fellow will be on the after-hours registrar roster, excluding night duty.
