Anaesthesia Training Position (Te Manawa Taki / Midland Scheme)

Applications for Anaesthesia training positions at Waikato Hospital (as part of the Te Manawa Taki Anaesthesia Training scheme) are invited for the 2024 year commencing late January 2024.

Waikato Hospital offers entry-level training positions (Senior House Officer) in anaesthesia, as well as registrar positions for those with prior anaesthetic experience.

Applicants must have completed a minimum of 2 years clinical work post-graduation prior to commencing the position. Applicants outside NZ and Australia must have previous Anaesthetic training experience.

Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and the major tertiary referral centre providing specialised and emergency healthcare for the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato areas, with a patient catchment of over 1,007,000 people. It is the only major hospital in New Zealand to offer all surgical specialties on one campus and is the major trauma hospital for the Te Manawa Taki region.  We provide an excellent training environment with very good supervision, as well as opportunities for career planning and development as you will gain extensive experience in a wide variety of settings.  You will become part of a friendly and supportive department, with a strong formal teaching programme and a commitment to high standards.

The Anaesthetic training positions are a shift roster, with the majority of staff working Monday to Fridays.  After-hours call is rostered between the main theatres, acute pain service and delivery suite at Waikato Hospital.  Registrars cover evenings, weekend and night shifts, while RMOs at SHO level are rostered to weekend shifts but there are no night duties.
