Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)

We are looking for a Social Worker to join our team at Alexandra Hospital on a permanent, part-time basis (0.6 FTE, 48 hours per fortnight). This position is suitable  for someone with an interest in  working with elderly  patients who  experience physical and psychiatric disorders.

The role will include working alongside our multidisciplinary team to assess the needs of patients and their whanau. The objective is to identify key social needs and facilitate safe discharge from hospital.

Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)

This position requires you to be registered with the NZ Social Workers Registration Board (provisional/full). You will ideally have experience working as a part of a multi disciplinary team in a health setting, and will bring an understanding of the social determinants of health, as well as the impact on health and social needs. You must be able to work in a collaborative way delivering client-centered practice from a strengths perspective. You will have a good understanding of bi-cultural social work practice, in addition to knowledge / experience with violence intervention and prevention.

To be successful you will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and lots of energy and enthusiasm. You will also be innovative, proactive, flexible, and creative with a positive approach to all situations, including problem solving. Your ability to think on your feet and work under pressure, with a solution focused approach, will be advantageous.

The applicant will need to be holistic in their approach and able to think outside the square. You will need to have an ability  to work with individuals and their whanau from many different backgrounds and have a broad knowledge of supports available in the community or a willingness to learn. A commitment to regular supervision.
