• Permanent 1.0FTE position available from mid June 2023. The position is for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our community home visit team
• NZ Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board and Annual Practicing Certificate is essential
• You will provide Occupational Therapy assessment and therapeutic interventions for people in their own homes following a recent admission to Christchurch Hospital.
• Due to the urgent nature of filling this position candidates will be progressed as they apply.

Mō te tūnga - About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the supportive Occupational Therapy team at Christchurch Hospital. We are looking for a suitably experienced NZ Registered Occupational Therapist to join us on a permanent basis as part of our Community Home Visit team.  You will have a minimum of 2 years relevant clinical experience with sound clinical skills in occupational performance assessment and problem-solving skills. Experience working in the community would be an advantage but is not essential.  

This role is a permanent role (40 hours per week), working Monday to Friday.  It is also expected that you will contribute to the weekend roster for the in-patient wards.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Working with patients in their own homes following a recent acute admission to Christchurch Hospital, to support their discharge back to community living.
• Be providing pre-discharge home visit assessments as clinically required.
• Supporting your colleagues across the team with complex discharge planning 
• Working with patients from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and working collaboratively with whanau, the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes;
• Identifying and contributing towards service improvement initiatives.
• Being involved in transfer and discharge planning.
• Mentoring and supervision of other colleagues within the wider Occupational Therapy service
• As part of the team you will also contribute to the weekend roster at Christchurch Hospital
• There will also be the opportunity to upskill in acute in-patient working as needed/wanted

• Comprehensive clinical assessment and problem-solving skills,
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, to develop positive interpersonal relationships, and work flexibly within the inter-disciplinary team, with a team player attitude
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to liaise effectively with health professionals both within the in-patient services and in the community
• Strong clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice
• A sound knowledge of the role that adaptive equipment and environment modifications can play in supporting people - s occupational performance
• A knowledge of the Enable NZ and ACC funding processes
• Effective time management and organisational skills
• Strong prioritisation skills and experience with complex discharge planning
• Registration with the NZ Occupational Therapy Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate (or eligibility to obtain);
• A positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work;
• A full clean drivers licence is essential
