About the role
Are you an 'A' grade qualified heavy or light Automotive Engineer, do you want to become part of a team that has a passion for heavy motor vehicle safety, do you want to make a difference and are you self-motivated?
If the answer is yes, then this could be for you.
The VSO role primarily involves inspecting commercial vehicles for compliance with Land Transport rules and regulations including full mechanical inspections, driver/operator compliance checks, weigh-bridge and roadside enforcement duties and providing expert advice to team members and management.
Key Accountabilities:
- Knowledge of heavy/light vehicle inspection, CoF/WoF
- Knowledge of the legislative requirements for vehicle standards
- An ability to relate to and communicate with people from all parts of the transport sector
- An understanding of the requirements for heavy vehicle braking
- A practical experience in the use of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with good numeracy and literacy skills

Special requirements
- To apply for this role you must be a NZ citizen or permanent resident.
- Must hold Advanced Trade Certificate (Automotive Heavy/Light) or NZ Certificate of Engineering (Mechanical) or NZQA recognised equivalent.
- An "A" Grade (Level 5/6) certificate in Automotive Engineering for light or heavy vehicle strands. A similar level of qualification from a related field could also be considered.
- A clean driving record, a class 2 licence would be an advantage.
- Applicants must be a NZ or Australian citizen or a NZ resident to apply for this position.
