Our NICU team are looking to recruit a vibrant Ward Clerk to join us in providing a premium healthcare service to the populations we serve. If you have a passion for helping people, a pro-active attitude and an interest in healthcare, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!
As a Ward Clerk within the unit you will be the first point of contact for anyone entering NICU at any given time, especially whānau of babies as it is likely you will be the first person they will meet. This fast-paced role includes a great amount of adaptability and prioritisation skills to cope with the changing environments, great for those who thrive under pressure!
This is a part-time role, working up to 16 hours per week. The shifts involved will include a mixture of days, evenings and weekends. Monday-Sunday 0700-1500 and 1500-2300. Please note you will need to have NZ Citizenship or Residency at the time of application to apply.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
You will be responsible for (but not limited to) tasks such as:
§ The maintenance of patient's files, data entry
§ The arrangement and monitoring of patient movements
§ Discharge and admission paperwork for all
§ Assisting in ward management functions
As the tasks involved do vary and will include a high level of interaction with the wider Starship team, the need to exercise superb communication skills is a must, and the ability to remain flexible in your approach is vital.
The ideal candidate for this position will thrive under pressure, be a forward thinker with a ‘can do’ attitude, and have excellent computer and administrative skills. Previous clerical experience is essential and prior knowledge and experience with medical terminology and hospital computer systems is advantageous.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for babies born premature and is the referral centre for babies who need paediatric cardiology services, neonatal surgery and/ or treatment for complex metabolic diseases. Located on level nine of the Auckland City Hospital - directly across from our National Women’s labour and delivery suite, this busy unit is one part of the largest maternity service in New Zealand with approximately 7,500 deliveries per year and around 900 infants admitted to NICU.
