Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a physiotherapist to join our surgical physiotherapy team at Waikato Hospital. Waikato Hospital is a large tertiary hospital located in the central north island with specialist surgical services in cardiothoracics general surgery, neurosurgery, burns, and is the major trauma centre for the midland region.

 

The surgical physiotherapy team provides acute post-operative rehabilitation across these services including critical care. We also provide a weekend service to acute respiratory patients across the hospital services including paediatrics.

 

This role will include a caseload within the surgical physiotherapy team, and specific details of caseload will be negotiated with the successful applicant based on their skills/experience. Consideration will be given to applicants seeking both full and part time work. Hours are negotiable and to be discussed at interview. The successful candidate must be available to work at least one day of the weekend.

The Physiotherapy service has approximately 90 staff including Physiotherapists, assistants and administrators that work across the large geographical area that is Te Whatu Ora, Waikato. We have staff based at Waikato Hospital, our secondary hospital in Thames and our three rural hospitals in Tokoroa, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui and across our many community bases in areas such as Morrinsville, Matamata, Cambridge, and Ngāruawāhia.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

• Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

• Registration with NZ Physiotherapist Board

• Current NZ annual practicing certificate

• A physiotherapist with sound knowledge and proven experience of working in surgical respiratory care, including critical care

• A clinician who is confident to work autonomously especially during the weekend.

• A willingness to develop skills and knowledge across a number of different areas within the surgical physiotherapy team.

• Ability to work well as part of a large multidisciplinary team
