We are looking for a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Histology team at LabPlus, Auckland City Hospital.

LabPLUS is an IANZ accredited medical laboratory and is one of New Zealand's premier laboratories. LabPLUS are part of the state-owned Auckland District Health Board. We offer a comprehensive pathology service for Auckland City Hospital, Starship Children’s Hospital, National Women's Health, and the Greenlane Clinical Centre. The Anatomical Pathology Department is a major referral laboratory comprising of several disciplines. These include Histology, Non-gynae Cytology and Electron Microscopy. We work with other external hospitals from around New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. This means we report on a broad range of specimens and to service this diversity we have an experienced team with specialist knowledge. We are fortunate to have a large number of Consultant Pathologists with considerable experience. We also have a very proficient Scientific and Technical team all working together to provide a quality service.
Our methods, training, expertise and knowledge conform to the highest standards expected by our peers and the community at large. We enjoy a close association with the University of Auckland Medical School and participate in external Quality Assurance Programmes
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
This role is based primarily in the Histopathology Team. It covers all aspects of the routine Histology laboratory, from specimen receipt, frozen sections, cut up, embedding, microtomy, special stains, direct immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry and QC. There is also the potential to roster in the more specialised areas of dissection, muscle biopsies and Mohs as well as participating in the on call roster.

These positions support all aspects of routine Histology. It is extremely important for the successful candidates to have good people skills as we work together as a close team that encourages open conversation. Histology as a discipline has real potential for advancement and we are committed to training with an emphasis on quality. Previous experience in Histology is essential and prior experience in specialised techniques such as muscle biopsies, Mohs and dissection would be an advantage however is not essential as training will be given to the right person.
