Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are seeking Registered Nurses with significant acute care experience to become part of our expanding Patient At Risk Service. The SCN role will ensure timely and effective response to patients and ward based clinical staff to manage acutely deteriorating patients.
You will be responding to medical emergencies, acute referrals and ICU follow ups in adult, paediatric and maternity inpatient services. The service will provide 24/7 cover, with the expectation that you will cover a variety of shifts.
This role will provide an opportunity to challenge and extend your acute care skills, support and educate others and contribute to the development and growth of the service.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
Hutt Hospital is a busy 260-bed facility providing secondary services for Lower and Upper Hutt cities. We are the tertiary centre for regional plastics, oral maxillofacial, burns and rheumatology services.
Our team delivers acute life support to acutely ill patients, around 700+ patients will come through the unit each year. 60% of these patient are acute medical admissions. However as a Regional Burns and Plastics centre we support post-operative major reconstructive surgery as our other main speciality.
The PARS team is a nurse-led team that covers all adult and paediatric wards, moving towards a 24/7 service, and applied critical care skills to the management of deteriorating and acutely unwell ward patients. PARS nurses support patient, their whanau and healthcare professionals by: responding to all 777 clinical emergencies and acute referrals, monitoring patients recently discharged from ICU, and providing education and advice in the management of acutely unwell patients. PARS nurses provide support and expertise to the ward staff where and when most needed and help with safe and timely transfers to ICU.
The PAR service uses a multi-disciplinary approach to identify patients at risk of or developing critical illness in the general ward environment. The emphasis is on of support and education to ward staff to help them recognise clinical deterioration and rapidly initiate an appropriate escalation of care.
