There is plenty of opportunity for you to make a real difference and to be actively involved with future growth within the service. The successful applicant will be a qualified medical practitioner who is able to be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a specialist in Geriatrics. The individual will need to demonstrate an ability to contribute to the development and implementation of new models of care, and will need to have a critical, analytical and leadership skills to see that tasks are completed to fruition. Research and teaching opportunities could be available.
If you are dually trained as a general physician, this job will be ideal for you as one of the many options for service development is the better development of our service integration into acute care of elderly patients both in medical and surgical environments. We also provide opportunities for innovation in the delivery of specialist services for our diverse and geographically spread populations.

Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service
We have developed our community out-reach services and supported discharge models; built a major Specialist Services for Older People and Rehabilitation (2013), (including the co-location of Mental Health Services for Older People facility, a purpose-built space totalling 113 beds for the inpatient team to work in the most efficient way possible. The teams practice within an interdisciplinary model and are supported by high quality clinical leadership.
The services provide seamless service delivery of:

Rehabilitation for adults 18-65 years of age;

Organised stroke services including acute stroke service with attached rehabilitation space;

Orthogeriatric rehabilitation; and
-
Rehabilitation and support for chronic neurological conditions and other chronic conditions.
Older Persons and Rehabilitation provides a flagship and benchmark for such services in New Zealand. We have a strong academic focus via our Institute of Healthy ageing and, therefore, have a focus on providing quality evidence around all that we do. This includes properly funded randomised trials whenever required.

The required skills and experience you will need to be considered for this role are:

Training and postgraduate qualifications as a Geriatrician

Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible to apply for Provisional Vocational Registration.

Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
The appointee will be involved in teaching, continuing medical education, and quality improvement. A commitment to customer focus, service development and teamwork is essential.
