Wheelchair and Seating Therapist - Adult Community Therapy Service at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitaha Canterbury, Christchurch

Mō te tūnga | About the Role

The Adult Community Therapy Service (ACTS) provides allied health interventions within our clients - homes and communities, as well as clinic-based settings.  We are looking for a clinician with Seating and Wheelchair Therapist experience, who is passionate about providing client-centred complex wheelchair and seating solutions within an inter-disciplinary team.  

You will bring excellent assessment, technical and problem solving skills as well as an understanding of the 24 hour postural needs for this client group. This is a busy role where you are guaranteed a varied case load to manage and the support of an experienced team.

Ko wai koe | About You

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking complex Wheelchair/Seating/24-hour postural management  assessments and implementing best-practice solutions, considered within a holistic approach
  • Prioritising, organising and managing a varied case load
  • Providing education and resource, where appropriate, to the client and their family/whānau, as well as the wider interdisciplinary team
  • Engaging in service delivery reviews and associated quality improvement initiatives
  • Providing clinical leadership for junior staff, Allied Health assistants and students

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

  • Enable NZ Level 1 & 2 Wheeled Mobility and Postural Management (WMPM1/2) accreditation is essential. 
  • Registration with the NZ Physiotherapy Board/NZ Occupational Therapy Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate is essential.
  • Experience working with adults with complex needs, including a variety of complex and degenerative neurological conditions is desired
  • Excellence with working autonomously, as well as within a wider interdisciplinary team
  • The ability to build and nurture relationships with service providers in the community
  • As travel within Canterbury is required, a full NZ Driver - s License is essential
