Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is a busy diagnostic facility providing services to in-patients and outpatients at Te Whatu Ora [Health NZ] Hospitals within Christchurch. You - ll be working for the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre with a varied and challenging caseload. We have a modern and well-equipped lab including a good range of specialist equipment.
This Laboratory Information System (LIS) Application Support role will be a key player in the LIS team, working with the CHL and its Labnet partners to support the LIS and development of changes, while maintaining the development and delivery of the LIS work plan. The LIS team are all passionate Information Technology (IT) and medical laboratory professionals who work closely together in a fun collaborative work environment.
This position is full-time working 40 hours per week however you will be on call on occasionally.
You will be responsible for:
- Code development for the LIS
- Application support and trouble shooting
- Modify protocols and configuration
- Discover, options analysis and development of requirements for business needs
- HL7 messaging and integration

This role would suit someone who enjoys getting to the core of a problem, finding out all the information and fully understanding a problem in order to make an informed decision. We are looking for someone who enjoys being challenged as well as looking at problems and solutions from a different perspective. Full training and coaching will be provided, so if you - re thinking about starting a career in information technology this could be the role for you!

Your skills will include:
- Problem-solving and prioritisation skills
- Proficient in requirements gathering and documentation
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent customer service skills
- Critical thinking and diagnostic abilities
- A passion and understanding of IT applications and coding
Preferred but not essential:
- Experience in code development, preferably in a LIS environment
- Qualification or equivalent work experience in an IT field and/or medical laboratory science
