Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Are you a talented Social Work leader, or a Social Worker wanting to develop skillsin leadership? This is an exciting opportunity for someone to step into the Team Leader role for Social Work. Based at Wellington Regional Hospital, this role provides day to day leadership and management of a busy Social Work team who provide services at Wellington Regional Hospital and in outpatient and community settings.
The focus of the role is to:
- Ensure services are organised and delivered in a way that makes the best use of the resources we have
- Provide clinical leadership that supports safe and effective patient care
- Motivate and inspire others to perform to their best
- Identify, lead and support quality improvement activities that achieve improved health outcomes and an improved experience for individuals, whānau and our wider communities
You will also work in collaboration with the Social Work Professional Leader on issues including workforce development and service improvements.
Whilst the role does not have a clinical component attached to it, at times the team leader may need to provide the team leadership around clinical service delivery and care so a current APC is essential.

The Social Work team based at Wellington Hospital is a mix of new graduate to experienced Social Workers who pride themselves on their team dynamic and the high quality care they provide to patients and whānau. All of our Allied Health clinicians work together to form a strong multidisciplinary team to best support the needs of patients, therefore you will also work closely with leaders and clinicians from a range of professions.
This role is one of 12 Allied Health Team Leader roles within the ORA (Older Adults, Rehabilitation and Allied Health) service, so there is a wealth of collegial support available to you.
Moū - About you
You will be a qualified Social Worker with a current APC who has a passion for leadership and clinical excellence. You will be keen to grow your leadership potential through managing a high-performing team. You will also be passionate about the role of Social Work and wider Allied Health professions and challenging the status quo to improve equity of outcomes for our clients. You will be someone who can think innovatively and lead people through change - with the current Health Reforms and internal changes in operational structures, this will be an exciting time to be part of the team!
You - ll have a commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a desire to work positively to improve health outcomes for Māori.
