Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
We have 3 fixed term Senior Project Manager opportunities available to join our Portfolio Work Programme till June 2025. These roles will work closely with our Portfolio Delivery Lead to deliver critical work programmes including a major commercial project, improvements to Pae Hokohoko Marketplace, modernisation of the New Zealand Gazette, jobs.govt.nz and secure email to name a few.
These roles will be part of the wider All of Government Services Delivery Group (AoG) within the Digital Public Service branch. This group is focused on building agency capability to identify opportunities and create leverage to provide a more accessible, robust and design-forward digital service across Government.
The role will require you to prepare and deliver project management deliverables applicable to the methodology and governance structures implemented including:
- Advocate and implement the most effective project management methodology (e.g., IT Projects/Agile / Six Sigma / Waterfall)
- Report key milestones throughout the project life cycle to stakeholders, establishing robust governance and reporting
- Demonstrate leadership by drawing insights from team to best utilise resources
- Implement an effective communication plan, fostering transparency and engagement
- Identify and track risks and devise mitigation strategies including budget management
- Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring their support and buy-in throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate actively in additional projects, meetings, and collaborative groups
- Prepare, maintain, and execute project plans, including scope, schedule, resources, and project deliverables
Salary band is from $114,312 - $153,245. This appointment will be made dependent on relevant skills and experience to the role.

You will be able to think strategically to support our delivery against plan and be comfortable and confident to navigate across ambiguity while remaining calm and focused. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to translate and communicate project deliverables to non-project stakeholders.
This will include:
- Demonstrated project management experience, successfully delivering in the Digital/ICT space
- Ability to work at high speed, multi-task, and manage multiple work streams
- Excelling at managing diverse work with varying timelines and deadlines and helping to set and manage expectations
- Proficient in crafting and delivering multi-faceted communications tailored to audiences
- Adept at identifying challenges and devising practical solutions to drive progress
- Skillful in nurturing professional relationships, enabling seamless collaboration with stakeholders
- Diligent in ensuring precision across tasks and deliverables
- Possessing the emotional intelligence needed to understand and connect with colleagues and stakeholders
- Experience working with both technical resources and senior management
- Demonstrated experience working across various product and project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall etc.)
- Professional qualifications (PMI, Prince 2, Scrum) is desirable
