Lead meaningful and rewarding work measuring, understanding, reporting on and drawing insights on a range of social statistics including: the labour market and New Zealand's official unemployment, employment, and underutilisation measures; and the prevalence of disability, and the experiences and needs of disabled people.
Lead a talented team of technicians and/or analysts, as well as contribute to the collective leadership of the Work and Wellbeing business unit with the senior manager, other managers, and Principal Analysts.

Starting salary: $114,614 - $134,134 negotiable depending on the successful applicant's skills and experience + Kiwisaver

Te tūnga | The role
Both the Manager - Labour Market, and Manager - Disability Insights, roles are permanent.
Both roles report to the Senior Manager - Work and Wellbeing.
You will be responsible for a team of Data Technicians and/or in the Work and Wellbeing business unit spread across Ōtautahi (Christchurch), Pōneke (Wellington), Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and/or remote locations. Your key focus will be to lead your team and put people first, while developing and delivering on a busy work programme of regular statistical releases.
The regular statistical releases produced by the Labour Market team include the results of the quarterly Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS), working age population statistics, and injury statistics. The Disability Insights team is gearing up to publish insights and statistics from the 2023 Household Disability Survey and holds subject matter expertise on disability across Stats NZ's household surveys.
It is preferred that the Manager - Labour Market is based in Pōneke (Wellington), while the Manager - Disability Insights role can be based in either Ōtautahi (Christchurch), or Pōneke (Wellington).
In both roles, each day will be different, with your conversations, focus and support of your people and team shifting between a range of different types of work. This will include: supporting your team member's development and wellbeing; developing, maintaining and monitoring progress against delivery workplans; managing risk, working through issues, identifying and supporting improvement opportunities through the statistical production process; and building and maintaining relationships with customers and stakeholders within and outside Stats NZ, including working collaboratively with internal teams who support us in collecting the data and getting data and insights published.
