We have a great opportunity for a pathology registrar to join our Histology/Cytology team. You will be based at Waikato Hospital, in Hamilton, working within a team of 11 anatomical pathologists and 1 other registrar. The department is accredited for training and works in collaboration with clinicians from across the hospital and region to deliver anatomical pathology services in a tertiary hospital setting.
The role is a fixed term role covering a period of parental leave commencing September 2023 to November 2024.

Required skills & experience you will need to be consider for this role:
- A strong interest in Pathology
- Completed the Basic Pathological Sciences (BPS) Examination
- Experience in gross description and dissection of specimens will be an advantage
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality and timely service

Waikato Hospital in Hamilton is one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary, teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres. Clinical specialities include Women’s and Children Services, Cardiology / Cardiothoracic Surgery, Oncology and Haematology, Surgical services, and Mental Health and Addiction. Waikato Hospital is the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology, and neurology

The Pathology service provides an extensive range of diagnostic testing across five laboratory sites in the Waikato region and processes referred specialist testing for the wider region.
The Anatomical Pathology department based at Hamilton hospital is supported by a modern, well-equipped histology and cytology laboratory with an enthusiastic and skilled scientific workforce. There is access to a wide range of diagnostic stains and techniques. The laboratory processes over 20,000 cases per year, participates widely in multidisciplinary team meetings and receives expert review cases from across New Zealand.
