Position Title: Health Protection / Technical Officer (HPO / TO)
Department: Environmental Health Team (EHT) of the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS)
Full time equivalent (1.0 FTE): Two permanent positions

Nau mai, Haere mai, the Health Protection team are recruiting two Health Protection Officer or Trainee Candidates to join our diverse team.
Show us how you implement your pae ora knowledge to a variety of health protection programme areas including enteric communicable diseases and environmental health issues.
This varied and exciting role where you can use your inquisitive mind to investigative skills and prevent the spread of enteric communicable diseases, protect whanau from harmful environmental exposures and promote the health and wellbeing of all people in the Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau) region through the provision of a wide range of high quality public health activities. This is an opportunity to ‘make a difference’ by using mana-enhancing and values based approaches to public health issues.

Ko wai mātou | Our Organisation
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) and its partners work alongside whānau, communities and other sectors to consider all the factors that impact on health and wellbeing, and deliver national, regional and local programmes to achieve pae ora. They partner with Te Aka Whai Ora and the Public Health Agency to work alongside whānau, communities, and other sectors, drawing on Mātauranga Māori and data to provide health protection at local, regional and national levels. The National Public Health Service sits within the delivery arm of Te Whatu Ora / Health New Zealand.
The Northern Public Health Service within the NPHS delivers public health services for the Tāmaki Makaurau (Te Toka Tumai – Auckland) and Te Tai Tokerau (Ngā Tai Ora - Northland) regions.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
In order to be successful in the role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge and/or understanding of health protection work.
- A designated Health Protection Officer preferably, or designated Environmental Health Officer.
- Completed Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Protection) or Completed Bachelor of Health Science (Environmental Health) or overseas equivalent University undergraduate qualification(s).
- A partial or completed Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health for those holding a Science Degree or overseas equivalent University undergraduate qualification(s).
- . Suitable candidates may be considered as a Technical Officer (TO) who will be expected to train towards Health Protection Officer designation.
- A full and current New Zealand Drivers Licence
- It would be an advantage if you korero Māori or Pasifika, and have cultural awareness of mana whenua.
