We have an exciting, newly created role available – Lead Carpenter – based with the Facilities Maintenance team at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Te Matau a Māui, Hawke’s Bay.
Your new role:
With a myriad of buildings to maintain we are looking for an experienced carpenter to join our team. You will be working on a range of buildings, equipment and infrastructure maintaining and improving as you go. Working within the Maintenance team and alongside Facilities Capital Projects staff you will have a keen eye for detail, be methodical in your approach and be able to plan, organise and execute minor construction works.

- You take pride in looking back at a job and saying “Yes that’s my work”
- You get a kick out of being able to say to a fellow staff member or customer “Yes, I have a fix for that situation”
Then we are looking for you because we need a person who likes to have a sense of ownership of the site and takes pride in seeing happy customers whether that be because you just installed a small book shelf, fixed the window or carried out a full refurbishment of their area.
Based from our well-equipped maintenance workshops you will no longer be subject to the extremes of weather, mud, dust and the noise of large construction sites, working in a hospital is generally quiet, clean and friendly.
Do not miss understand us, this is not a soft option. This is a role for an experienced trade person who is looking for plenty of variety.
In addition to carrying out light construction and providing maintenance solutions to improve the functionality of the hospitals building infrastructure it is our intention that you will give daily direction for another carpenter and provide insight and advice to the members of the Facilities Management team.
You may be a carpenter with at least 5 years’ experience under your belt or you may be highly competent with multiple years of experience. Either way, if you have the drive and the passion, this role may be for you.
You will bring the following skills:
- Proven problem solving and trouble shooting skills
- Proven ability to lead staff
- Excellent across the board carpentry skills
- Good understanding of locks and door hardware
- Desire to grow and develop your skills and career
- A strong service orientation, looking to deliver high quality outcomes
- 5+ years’ experience
- A relevant trade qualification
- Full driver license
