Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We have a great opportunity for someone to join our team here at Taumarunui Hospital. The successful applicant will work alongside a small team of science health professionals as part of the wider Waikato laboratory service.
The role of Pre-Analytical Technician involves the collection (phlebotomy) of laboratory specimens. This role may also extend to data entry and some specimen preparation for testing.
As a pre-analytical technician in our team, you will have collaboration and support to deliver your mahi and contribute to the broader objectives of our busy laboratory.

This role requires good communication skills, and calls for someone who is passionate about what they do, able to work independently as well as collaborate with team members on core elements of the work.
Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality and timely service
- A high level of accuracy
- A people person with the ability to communicate empathetically
- Applicants will preferably be registered with the Medical Sciences Council as a Medical Laboratory Technician, however those without this qualification and the right attributes may also be considered and will be given full training.
- Experience in healthcare and/or customer service is advantageous

A little about our service - the Pathology service provides an extensive range of diagnostic testing across five laboratory sites in the Waikato region and processes referred specialist testing for the wider region.
The Taumarunui laboratory is located at the hospital, and provides services for both hospital and community patients. The laboratory mainly processes specimens requiring Haematology and Biochemistry tests, and does limited Microbiology.
