Te Whatu Ora Waitematā serves the Te Raki Pae Whenua, Waitakere and Kaipara ki Mahurangi areas to delivering excellent health outcomes and patient experience.
If you would like to play a key role in our Pilot Project over the next 6 months, to reduce Māori inequities, improve Māori patient experience in hospital services and in making sure whānau Māori can navigate their way safely through the hospital system, then this Oranga Coordinator role might suit you.
Oranga Co-Ordinators are patient advocates who work in active partnership with clinical and non clinical teams and with whānau, to make sure their loved one gets the assessment, care and treatment services they require in hospital and in our outpatient clinics. In the planned care space, we make sure that whānau are able to attend their outpatient appointments. The most important abilities are to understand Māori lifestyles, to be able to communicate effectively with Māori patients and whanau and to engage them as early as possible in their healthcare journey.
You will also need
- sound written skills (for note taking) and an effective phone manner (for patient contacts)
- some knowledge of Māori health partners, manawhenua health and social service providers, hāpori Māori and NGOs (we can train you if needed)
- an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its impact on Māori people
- some knowledge and capability in Te Reo Māori me ona Tikanga of your own hapū and iwi
We have three full time roles for a fixed term of 6 months. You will join a team that is already functioning, on 7-day daytime rosters, in the hospital and planned care spaces. We are very flexible about which days of the week you can work and we can accommodate family lifestyles.
