Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Rostering Support kapa (team) is a fundamental part of the HR Shared Services (HRSS) whānau (family). They tautoko (support) the largest workforce in the South Island ensuring we pay our kaimahi (staff) accurately, on time, every time. They - re hard-working and dedicated delivering their mahi (work) to high standards putting the kaimahi (staff) at the centre of what they do.
As a Roster Officer, you - ll report into the Rostering Support Team Leader and be part of a fantastic group of specialists.
Key everyday responsibilities include:
- Providing essential support and advice to our managers;
- Translating information about who worked what and when into wages;
- Being the gatekeeper to good quality payment data.
Alongside this, there are always projects and initiatives that need to be supported too:
- Collaborating with colleagues and kaimahi (staff) to review and continuously improve the way we work;
- Training and support of our people leaders and roster transactors;
- Making sure we comply with legislation;
- Helping prioritise work;
- Providing information for audits.
The ability to work from home on occasion and have flexibility of hours is also a possibility.

To be successful in this role, you should be comfortable in a complex, diverse and fast-paced work environment. We need someone who - s resilient, driven, works well under pressure and is unphased by delivering to deadlines while achieving a high level of accuracy. This role would suit an energetic problem solver with a keen eye for detail who can adapt their style and focus when the need arises. Drive and determination to deliver excellent customer service is a must.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
You - ll be working with complex reports so should have an intermediate knowledge of systems and reporting tools. Being familiar with employment agreements and the various aspects of paying people would be ideal, as well as experience of the health sector or other large 24/7 organisations.
Your skills should include:
- Being familiar with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- A basic understanding of the mechanics of paying people
- Problem solving and conflict resolution
- Accurate data entry and good attention to detail
- The ability to meet tight deadlines
- Being customer focused
