Te Toka Tumai – Auckland City Hospital have an excellent opportunity available for an Advanced Clinician, or Senior Social Worker (depending on experience) to join our team working in the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) – this role is permanent, .9 FTE role – 72 hours per fortnight.
You will provide a high level of specialist clinical practice and trauma informed intervention, demonstrating your expertise in delivering evidence-based practice. You will be able to clearly articulate the role of a Social Worker to the wider multi-disciplinary team.
This is a key support role at a significant time in the life of the patient and whānau. In this area, Social work practice is highly responsive to each patient’s unique needs and requires a high level of specialist knowledge. Additional competencies include excellent advocacy skills, grief counselling and the ability to think critically and develop patient and whānau centred interventions.
It will be important that you can provide training to the wider multi-disciplinary team, as and when required. The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential. A passion for fostering engagement with Tangata Whenua is a requirement of this role.
This newly established role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the Social Work profession by implementing evidence-based service improvement. The ability to work independently and prioritise workload demands is essential. Regular supervision and continuing professional development opportunities will be provided along with regular support from your Practice Supervisor and Social Work Clinical Lead.

As the ideal candidate for this role, you have the following skills and attributes:
Required:
- A recognised Social Work qualification with full registration with the New Zealand Social Workers’ Registration Board and a current Annual Practising Certificate
- Excellent psycho-social assessment and intervention skills
- Well-developed communication skills
- An understanding and competence in Tikanga Māori
- A full, clean class 1 driver’s licence
- The service operates an after-hours, on-call service 7 days per week. Therefore, the ability to work outside of regular work hours, including weekends is required.
Preferred:
- Minimum of four years of experience in Health Social Work for Senior Social Work role, minimum of six years for the Advanced Clinician Social Work role
- Experience working with grief and loss
- Experience in multi-disciplinary working
- Strong cultural knowledge and a capacity to work effectively alongside our diverse communities
- Experience in service development and managing projects aligned with improving patient services
