Applications are invited for the 2025/2026 year for Non-Training Registrar (NTR) Positions (2yrs+ Post Graduation) at Waikato Hospital.
Candidates who have completed two years post graduate hospital experience including a variety of surgical experience will be considered. Dually qualified (Medicine and Dentistry) or Dentally qualified applicants are welcomed to apply for the positions.

ABOUT THE HOSPITAL:
Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and the major tertiary referral center providing specialized and emergency healthcare for the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato area, with patient's catchment of approximately 1,000,000 people. It is the only major hospital in New Zealand to offer all surgical specialties on one campus and is the major trauma hospital for the Midland region.
Waikato Hospital has 550 general inpatient beds, performs in excess of 34,000 surgical procedures per year in the 24 theatre operating suite, and sees an average of 220 emergency department presentations per day.
ABOUT THE SERVICE:
The Oral and Maxillofacial Department provides a tertiary service to the Central North Island of New Zealand. Hamilton is a level 1 major trauma centre and one of the largest tertiary teaching hospitals, and has a close affiliation with the University Of Auckland School Of Medicine.
The current OMS team consists of 3 OMS Consultant, 1 OMS H+N Fellow, 1 full-time training Registrar, 2 NTRs, 1 Medical RMO, and 3 dedicated OMS House Officers. There is a varied acute work load (e.g. odontogenic infections, facial trauma), along with elective operating which includes dento-alveolar, orthognathics, both benign and malignant pathology and TMJ surgery. In this role, you will provide regional acute, elective and outpatient OMS Services, as part of the OMS Team. You will work closely with ORL Head and Neck Surgery, ICU, and Medical/Radiation oncology colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing complex head and neck oncology clinical services.
Waikato is a leading training centre in OMS, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. You will have the opportunity to participate in training and research opportunities are expected to be taken up by the interested candidates. There are well-structured weekly departmental teaching programme.
As a 24/7 OMS service, our successful candidate will contribute to after-hours on-call on a 1 in 3 basis. Given the presence of trainees and house surgeons, you will be encouraged to support their teaching and development alongside visiting medical and dental students.

Located in Hamilton city, the third largest city in North Island; 1½ hours drive south of Auckland, and offers a superb lifestyle and quality-of-life working environment. As the largest employer in Hamilton, there is a varied and approachable social network based around the hospital. It is within easy reach of both West Coast surfing and East Coast leisure beaches. The Ruapehu Ski-fields are three hours drive away, and there are outstanding opportunities for hiking, sailing, fishing, biking and many other outdoor activities within the Waikato, and throughout New Zealand.
