Applications are invited for the 2025 training year for non SET Registrar Positions (2yrs+ Post Graduation) at Waikato Hospital.
Note: Those who are commencing as trainees will commence as directed by their college.
The Vascular Department is an integral service based at Waikato Hospital. It provides tertiary services for the Te Manawa Taki regional population of 1,007,000. This is an expanding service with excellent regional networks. The department currently has 4 surgeons performing the full range of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. There is a well-staffed Vascular Ultrasound lab, and a fully equipped Endovascular Hybrid Theatre at Waikato Hospital. The department is RACS Vascular Surgery accredited and has 2 senior trainees. We also have 3 junior registrars and 2 house surgeons.
The department is affiliated with the University of Auckland with a strong interest in research and clinical trials.
Candidates who have completed two years post graduate hospital experience, including a variety of surgical experience will be considered. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the breadth of surgery in our large tertiary setting before honing in on a training pathway. We provide an excellent training environment with very good supervision, as well as opportunities for career planning and development as you will gain extensive experience in a wide variety of settings.
Waikato Vascular is a busy unit offering the full range of vascular and endovascular procedures and there are excellent opportunities for registrars interested in training in vascular surgery.
Located in Hamilton city, the third largest city in North Island; 1½ hours drive south of Auckland, and offers a superb lifestyle and quality-of-life working environment. As the largest employer in Hamilton, there is a varied and approachable social network based around the hospital. It is within easy reach of both West Coast surfing and East Coast leisure beaches. The Ruapehu Ski-fields are three hours drive away, and there are outstanding opportunities for hiking, sailing, fishing, biking and many other outdoor activities within the Waikato, and throughout New Zealand.
