Waikato Hospital has an extensive and very well-developed Physician Basic Training Program, with an established mentorship system involving Senior Residents and SMOs. The teaching is geared towards preparation for the RACP Exams (both Written and Clinical). There is an intensive schedule of didactic lectures, bedside clinical coaching sessions (for Long and Short Cases) and a Mock Written and Clinical Exam for our trainees sitting the RACP Exam. We have an army of dedicated SMOs (many of them are current RACP Clinical Examiners) and Senior Residents who are committed to the education program and well-being of our junior doctors. Also, our trainees are given first preference to attend our annual Waikato Long Case Course (which continues to receive excellent reviews every year).
Recruitment is subject to a competitive interview process following the submission of an up-to date curriculum vitae, covering letter, passport and three current references, one of which must be from your current or most recent supervisor.
We ask you please indicate within your cover letter your first 4-5 allocation preferences so we can consider this as part of your application.
Eligible applicants who do not wish to enrol in physician training are welcome to apply for a non-trainee registrar position; this will include those who are not progressing to an Advanced Trainee role.
Only online applications will be considered.
