About the role
We are currently seeking an exceptional person to fill the above role primarily based at He Puna Waiora Inpatient Unit, North Shore Hospital, Takapuna. The main purpose of this position is to facilitate Hauora outcomes and support tangata whai i te ora Māori as they receive clinical care in a mental health setting. Operating with manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kotahitanga principles, this role will see you providing advice, guidance, and support, through Māori cultural interventions to establish a safe, welcoming, and trusting environment for Māori people. This role will work closely with other Taurawhiri, Senior Taurawhiri, Kaumātua, Lived Experience Advisor, Whānau Advisor and Te Pae Ahurea Team Lead.
About You
The position suits a person who has a strong understanding and application of tikanga Māori; is proficient in te reo Māori; has a good understanding of Māori Models of Health - Te Whare Tapa Whā, Te Wheke, Te Pae Mahutonga; and is passionate about making a valuable contribution to Māori Mental health and wellbeing.
The successful candidate will need to:
- be passionate about health and wellbeing
- be self-motivated and mature in life’s challenging experiences
- live by whānau, hapū and Iwi values
- be able to converse in te reo Māori
- be competent in applying tikanga Māori and
- have a full driver’s licence
A bonus would be:
- a qualification, training and/or experience applying tikanga Māori
- a qualification training and/or experience working in the Māori mental health and addictions sector
We will show you how to:
- facilitate cultural interventions
- apply Hauora Māori Models in Mental Health and Addictions services
