Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are excited to offer this opportunity for a registered Clinical or Health Psychologist (Kaimātai / Hauora Hinengaro) to join our regional specialist Cancer Support Team. In this role you will provide psychological care for patients and their whānau who have a new or recent diagnosis of cancer, with a goal of helping them to manage the impact of cancer in their lives, promoting psychological resilience, and adjusting to a serious-illness.
This role is primarily based at Wellington Hospital, however will provide support to the wider team based at Hutt and Kenepuru Hospitals, and our small outreach service in the Wairarapa as required.
Duties will include:
- Conducting thorough psychological assessments, as well as formulating and implementing evidence-based psychological interventions
- Maximising the person - s ability to cope with the difficulties of a new or recurrent diagnosis, as well as support their ability to engage in cancer treatment
- Ensuring that service users have timely and equitable access to psychological support
- Contributing to our local and national ongoing education and service development programmes
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
You will be joining a friendly, dynamic and highly motivated group of psychologists and social workers who are dedicated to improving health outcomes for those living with cancer. Our small, but very passionate team, work across Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast District Health Boards, and provide a small outreach psychology service to people living in the Wairarapa. We value collaborative working and support other professions and services to grow their skills and capabilities in the provision or psychological and social support, as well as providing direct support to people diagnosed with cancer, and their whānau.
Moū - About you
We are looking for a New Zealand registered psychologist with a clinical or health scope of practice. As the successful candidate you will have a real passion for working in this area, and be highly movitated to help us provide a quality service. You will be able to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and across services to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved.
This role will suit applicants from a broad range of clinical experiences. As a more experienced clinician you will have the opportunity to grow and develop our service, or as a newer graduate you will be supported by the wider team to learn about oncology and develop your clinical skills. The successful applicant will have the following skills and attributes:
- Registered psychologist with clinical or health scope of practice
- Current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate
- Experience of working with people who have complex needs
- A commitment and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (and application to health) and a willingness to work positively to improve health outcomes for Māori
- Experience working with Māori and Pacific peoples (desirable)
- Experience working with people affected by cancer (desirable)
- Experience of working in a health care setting (desirable)
