About the role
The Prime Minister's Office is seeking a Deputy Chief Press Secretary to join his team for a period of 12 months to cover parental leave. This pivotal role places you at the heart of communicating the policies and initiatives of our Government to the New Zealand public. It is unique and rewarding work, in a high impact and fast-paced environment.
As the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, you will join a tight knit and trusted team responsible for supporting the Prime Minister and working alongside all media and communications roles within the Executive. You will be working closely with the Chief Press Secretary to ensure that all communications from the Executive are consistent with the agreed priorities and messages of the Government.
What you'll bring to the role:
- You will be an experienced political operator with a significant background in media, communications and/or public relations
- A skilled strategist, you will be adept at both anticipating a story before it happens and creating the narrative
- Your new role will require you to understand a range of complex material, with an eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, through a broad range of channels
- With a highly attuned awareness of both the media and the political landscape, you will be social media savvy and confident in writing speeches and press releases
- In this highly relational environment, your advanced interpersonal skills will set you up for success, building the confidence of the Prime Minister's office, the wider team, and coalition partners
