You will be an integral part of the forensic pathology team, including the senior leadership team dealing with over 1000 coronial autopsies each year, covering the full spectrum of coronial-authorised post-mortems. We play a crucial role in mass fatality events, operate a 7 day a week on-call service and are accredited by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) for training and the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). The department has a dedicated CT scanner as well as separate infectious and homicide theatres and provide a busy regional perinatal post-mortem service as part of the National Perinatal Pathology Service (NPPS). The department operates out of LabPLUS (IANZ-accredited tertiary laboratory) on the Auckland City Hospital site and is staffed by full-time technicians, forensic pathologists, perinatal pathologists, Quality Officer/IT Superuser, management, and administration personnel. Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
As the Technical Administration Supervisor, you will be an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician with great IT skills, and registered or eligible to be registered, with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ with a current APC. The position has the overall responsibility and accountability for providing oversight and management of the administration resources for the area. This will include perinatal administration, coronial and non-coronial administration, transcription, documentation, file management, management of unclaimed deceased, assistance to whanau/families of the tūpāpaku, data management and tissue management, including comprehensive tissue audits. You will have an overall emphasis on quality outcomes with primary responsibility for maintaining the administration section and tissue management’s accreditation against the standard ISO 15189. Within the administration and tissue space you will assist with developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, liaising with internal services and external agencies to provide a quality service that meets the needs of the department and stakeholders. You will be the first point of contact for all administration and tissue related issues and liaise between the department, LabPLUS, the wider Te Toka Tumai organisation and our external stakeholders when required.
The successful applicant will report directly to the Technical Head, Forensic Pathology. You will work in close collaboration with the Clinical Director, Operations Manager and Technical Head to ensure efficient operation, identify issues, and develop strategies to mitigate risk. You will be responsible for managing a small administration team with regards to planned and unplanned leave, workload and task allocation. As you would expect, the nature of our work means you’ll be exposed to content and concepts of a graphical nature, including forensic material and images, the mortuary theatres, equipment, and environments.
