Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking an experienced and proactive Senior Advisor in Communication and Engagement to join the Waikato Bay of Plenty team. This is an opportunity to bring your A-game to support NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and make a meaningful difference for New Zealand. We are looking for a motivated and passionate communications and engagement practitioner, who can live and breathe our values and behaviours. This role plays a pivotal part in effectively communicating and engaging with stakeholders, communities, and mana whenua.
You will develop C&E plans to mitigate and capitalise on risks and opportunities, deliver best practice to support projects and programmes to strengthen our partnerships. You get to make connections right across the business with plenty of opportunity for growth and professional development.
You'll play a key role in communicating and engaging with partners and stakeholders to plan and manage the internal and external communications and engagement activities for assigned programmes and projects, ensuring all activities meet NZTA standards and deliver the required outcomes.
You'll offer advice and provide communications and engagement planning to ensure NZTA is well supported to achieve its goals. You will help connect people with NZTA and champion our reputation through best practice engagement and communications delivery.

We are looking for great storytellers with a strong understanding of communications channels and event engagement experience.You will be a strategic thinker with experience working in the public sector.
Experience working on and prioritising multiple pieces of work and projects, while working to deadline, is a must. You will be innovative and creative, a self-starter and be flexible.
You will also have:
- Previous experience in communications and engagement planning and delivery at senior advisor level
- Excellent writing and editing skills and experience presenting complex information clearly and simply
- Scans for, identifies, and influences, others to resolve complex risks and ambiguous situations
- Sound knowledge of communications and engagement tools, techniques and channels
- Other specialist skills ie marketing, public relations, change communications
- An ability to adjust pragmatically and constructively to changes in work practices, and to deal with competing demandsProven ability to build relationships with people at all levels
- Previous exposure to successfully working in a collaborative/matrix environment
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning in the field of communications and engagement
Qualifications
- A tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline
- Training or qualification in IAP2 is desirable but not essential.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
