About the Role

Are you ready to begin your midwifery career in a supportive and innovative environment? We invite applications from motivated Graduate Midwives to join our Maternity Services team.

This is a permanent position with negotiable hours to suit your needs. You’ll have the opportunity to provide compassionate, holistic care to wāhine and their whānau across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal journey.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Maternity Services team is passionate about providing exceptional care that supports the health and wellbeing of wāhine and pēpi. We are committed to creating an environment where new graduates can thrive through mentorship, teamwork, and a focus on continuous learning.

This is an exciting opportunity for new graduate midwives. Our secondary facility manages 2,200 births per year, offering a mix of primary and secondary maternity care.

The base hospital in Hastings is supported by a primary facility in the rural location of Wairoa. We are also commencing the construction of a new primary maternity facility alongside our secondary unit, designed with a focus on active labour, birth, and creating a whānau-friendly environment for the journey into parenthood.

As a new graduate midwife, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Consolidate your practice.
  • Work in a supportive environment.
  • Enrol and complete the Midwifery 1st Year of Practice programme.
  • Be released for study and professional development.
  • Work across the full midwifery scope of practice.
  • Gain valuable experience in secondary/tertiary midwifery practice.

About you

We are looking for team players who are ready to learn and further their experience.

Ideal applicant will bring the following skills and key attributes;

  • A New Zealand-registered midwife (or eligible for registration).
  • In your first year of practice, or recently graduated from an NZ midwifery programme.
  • Passionate about providing culturally responsive care, with an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in maternity services.
  • A great communicator who thrives in a team environment.
  • Committed to growing your skills and confidence as a practitioner.
