About the Role
We have a great opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer/Consultant Histopathologist to join our growing team in the Anatomical Pathology Department at Waikato Hospital.
Our pathologists cover all areas of general histopathology and non gynae cytology with the opportunity to participate in some areas of sub speciality depending on the applicant’s background and experience.
As an anatomical pathologist in our team you’ll have autonomy, mastery and purpose to deliver your mahi and contribute to the broader objectives of our busy laboratory.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The successful applicant will be based in Hamilton at Waikato hospital, working in partnership within a team of 11 anatomical pathologists and 2 registrars. The department works in collaboration with clinicians from across the hospital and region to deliver anatomical pathology services in a tertiary hospital setting.
About you
- Applicants must hold a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or an equivalent qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality and timely service
- An ability to solve problems in a complex, constantly changing environment
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
