About the Role
Due to retirement an exciting Waikato District Operations Manager position is available. This position is responsible for all aspects of Nutrition and Food services: patients’ meals, fluid and nutritional supplements, the main staff cafeteria and 4 food and coffee outlets on Campus.
The key functions of this role are:
- Provide district wide operational leadership and accountability for all aspect of Nutrition and Food Services.
- Support clinical services to deliver patient centred and most optimal clinical outcome
- Deliver the most effective and efficient services within the allocated budget
- Subject matter advisor and updated intelligence for matters relating to patients nutrition and food and food and beverage and hospitality sector.
- Be an effective team player within the directorate and for Te Whatu Ora’s teams of teams.
About the Service
The Clinical & Operational Support Directorate supports healthcare professionals in the delivery of patient centred care, through a wide range of support services. Services contained within this directorate provide services across the Waikato District. Nutrition and Food Services sits within that directorate and is responsible for providing nutrition and food services more than 1000 patients each meal time and also provides for Meals on Wheels to clients in the community. The services is also directly responsible for the main staff café and 4 food and beverage outlets on site. The patient service includes production, service and distribution of food to the patient bedside and uses a software system that integrates patient clinical systems with nutrition and food services. The retail outlets provide a revenue stream through selling food and beverages services to staff and visitors.
About you
To be successful in this challenging and complex role you need the following:
- Honed interpersonal and networking skills

- Good sense of humour, attention to details but not sweat the small stuff
- Highly organised and unafraid to challenge status quo
Experience:
- Preferred BSc Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food Service management with demonstrated relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in operational, hospitality and leadership in a complex related environment.
- Understanding of food service legislation and hygiene standards
- Extensive experience in building and sustaining collaborative working relationships in a high pressure environment to enable effective change management.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in leading change management.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to negotiate, resolve conflict and positively influence and motivate others
- Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience in managing projects across complex stakeholder groups
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
