About the Role:
We are looking for Casual Orderlies to join our team!
Orderlies contribute significantly to the healthcare industry even though the care they provide is not medical. Orderlies aid with everyday tasks such as transferring patients between wards, rubbish and linen pick up from all areas to keep areas safe and hygienic, meal deliveries to wards and also offer all these services to all other inpatient healthcare settings within the region.
Their help, reassurance and companionship make a significant difference in the patient experience. Interpersonal skills are necessary to deal with sick and sometimes grumpy people daily. Orderlies must also pay strong attention to detail, be willing to work in a team environment and be able to do heavy lifting.
Orderlies work within all areas of the hospital. In addition to assisting with everyday tasks, they help transport patients by wheelchair or bed to theatre, work inside theatre, radiology department, emergency department and other locations around the facility. Orderlies listen attentively to patients’ concerns and report these to the nursing staff. They deliver and pick up mail from areas of the hospital and also transport other equipment and non-medical supplies around the hospital i.e. bio medical supplies and blood specimens to the laboratory.

Working as an orderly also provides exposure to many kinds of healthcare professionals and is a great way to explore careers in the field.

- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
